During the 2008 summer retreat in Portland, Oregon, USA, two senior teachers, Per O.Johansen and Howard Boster, took sannyas from Swami Chetanananda. Sannyas is a series of rituals in which a practitioner makes a formal commitment to spiritual work. A sannyasi is given the title "Swami", meaning "master of oneself". In the picture above, Swami Ganeshananda is shown to the left, and Swami Prakashananda is to the right.
