Swami Ganeshananda (formerly Per O. Johansen) is recognized as Trika Yoga teacher by Swami Chetanananda. He took sannyas from Swami Chetanananda during the past summer retreat at the ashram in Portland, Oregon, USA. Sannyas is a series of rituals in which a practitioner makes a formal commitment to spiritual work. A sannyasi is given the title "Swami", meaning "master of oneself." Swami G. has established and leads The Movement Center Scandinavia, located in Oslo, and with connected centers in Copenhagen, Denmark and Sortland, Norway. He has been a practitioner of Trika Yoga for the past 38 years. He has written several articles about the practice and spiritual growth in the Norwegian journal Alternativt nettverk, and he has published the book "Freedom From the Web of Karma" (in Norwegian). He was a student and devotee of Swami Rudrananda (Rudi) in New York from the fall of 1969 until Rudi's passing in 1973. Since Rudi's passing, he has been a student and devotee of Swami Chetanananda. Swami G. has a doctoral degree in education and was formerly a professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In Knoxville he also served as Trika Yoga teacher and ran a meditation center connected with The Movement Center. Since leaving the University of Tennessee, he has worked as a trainer and consultant in American and European industry, focusing on improvement methods, organizational change and team work. He is still working in this area in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe while he serves as a Trika Yoga teacher there. He is now a resident of Norway and is dedicated to making Trika yoga accessible in Scandinavia for anyone who wants to grow spiritually.
